Vintage 1950s Gilbert Original grey Botany Wool twill American jacket double winged collar velvet rockabilly fitted tailored femme fatale
 
Immaculate and very beautiful, soft wool point twill original 1950s jacket by Gilbert Originals, who were one of the major Amercian designers at the time featured in American Botany Wool fashions that starred models such as Suzy Parker Chery Nelmes and Jean Pratchett.
So this is a wonderful high end piece in perfect condition from the golden age of American Fashion as they sought to emulate and I dare say even surpass French styles. This jacket is superbly cut and suitable for a size UK 6 or 8. 
 
At the same time I got this there was a music note brooch which I suspect may have been worn with it. So, you will get that too as it looks so fabulously rock and roll but also very classy. Also the perfect jacket for the femme fatale...you can just see someone like Ava Gardner wearing this at the time.
 
If you aren't falling in love with this already, check your pulse! So my 'spirit of the age' and garment song is Buddy Holly's ' It's So Easy to Fall in Love"  1956 and I'd estimate the jacket dates from around then as neat unusual winged collars were having a field day!  It is just the perfect jacket for the sophisticated rockabilly or 1950s pin up girl, or the chic and classy for eg to attend the races or a wedding or social function. It will turn heads as you see nothing remotely as elegant and well cut nowadays, let alone the quality of the fabric.
So I don't know if I should be selling this I may keep, so hurry before I change my mind! So unusual to find a piece like this of high end fashion from the time with no external flaws. Looks brand new. 
 
While very fitted it isn't constricting even though it looks it! Such sculpted form yet so soft!
